Centereach is a hamlet located in the Town of Brookhaven in Suffolk County, New York. It is situated on Long Island’s North Shore, near the communities of Selden and Lake Grove. Centereach is a predominantly residential community, and has a population of around 31,000.

The area was originally inhabited by the Setalcott Indians who lived in small villages along the shoreline and fished for their livelihood. The land was later purchased by English settlers in 1655, who established farms and planted apple orchards. The hamlet of Centereach was established in 1873 as part of the Town of Brookhaven when it split from Smithtown. Centereach was named after its central location between Stony Brook to the west and Port Jefferson to the east.

Centereach offers a variety of housing options ranging from single-family homes to condominiums and townhouses. There are several parks located in Centereach including Hawkins Park, which features ball fields and playgrounds; Terryville Park, which offers trails for biking and hiking; and Veteran’s Memorial Park with its memorial monuments dedicated to local veterans from World War I through Desert Storm.
