Florissant, Missouri Population, Hospitals, Airports, and Schools
Florissant, Missouri is an historic city located in the northern part of St. Louis County, just north of the City of St. Louis. The city lies along the Missouri River and is known for its beautiful parks, historic sites, and vibrant culture.
Florissant was first settled by French colonists in 1785 and was one of the first areas to be designated as a National Historic District due to its preserved 19th century architecture. The city’s name comes from the Latin phrase “florissant” which means “blooming” or “flowering”, referring to its lush green landscape. Today, Florissant boasts more than 20 parks and recreational areas that are perfect for picnics, fishing trips, nature walks, and other outdoor activities.
The historic downtown area is full of unique shops, restaurants, and small businesses like antique stores and art galleries that showcase local artisanship. There are also several museums in Florissant that provide insight into the city’s history including the James J Eagan Center which houses a variety of historical artifacts from around the world as well as interactive exhibits about life in early Florissant.
The city also has many annual festivals throughout the year such as Jazz on the Square which features live jazz music performances from local artists as well as food vendors and craft vendors who display their wares in downtown Florissant each summer. The annual Heritage Festival celebrates Florissant’s rich history with a parade complete with marching bands and floats followed by a street fair showcasing local businesses and musical performances from popular artists like Journey or Earth Wind & Fire.
In addition to its cultural attractions, Florissant is home to several educational institutions including McCluer High School which is one of only two high schools in St Louis County accredited by both the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA-CASI) and AdvancED (formerly SACS). The Hazelwood School District serves students in grades K-12 throughout Florissant with six elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, an alternative school center for students aged 16-21 years old who have not completed high school graduation requirements yet still wish to pursue further education opportunities beyond high school level courses or college equivalency degrees such as GEDs or HiSETs
Florissant is a great place to live with something for everyone; whether you enjoy exploring its rich history or taking part in outdoor activities like camping at nearby Horseshoe Lake Park or fishing at Coldwater Creek Park there are plenty of attractions that make this small town an ideal place to call home.
